Why choose documentary style?

Documentary style family photography might not be what you imagine when you think of family photos. Maybe you think of the department store studio session you had as a child. Or the relative who sent you a Christmas card of his family running down the beach holding hands. Or maybe the giant canvas of the whole family in matching jeans and white shirts at your neighbor’s house. All of those more traditional photos have their purpose and place, but some people want a different experience. Maybe you’re not a “family photo person.” Or you’re too shy to pose. Or, you’re just eager to document your family honestly, as you really are in this moment in time.
